Bison (American Buffalo) down is an extremely soft, comfortable product much like cashmere. It is strong, soft and very insulating and therefore warm – warmer than wool. Any item you choose to make out of this yarn will not pill – an added feature. Bison yarn needs no dying – we create the yarn using its rich, natural, chocolate brown color.

Bison yarn has a very wide range of moisture “regain” of 13 to 20 percent. This is a measure of the amount of moisture that fiber will hold without feeling wet. The more moisture a fiber will hold the more comfortable and warm it is to wear. This makes clothing made from bison yarn great items for cold weather wear. Another great feature of Bison yarn is that it doesn’t contain lanolin, which some people are allergic to. And because it doesn’t contain lanolin moths will not be attracted to your garment.

Bison fiber is a solid fiber, so it is quite washable and won’t shrink or felt. It can be hand washed, squeezed of excess water, towel dried and then laid out flat to finish drying. The result will be a soft and fluffy garment item.
